Can anyone join?
- No. The club exists to serve in Christian ministry within the 'outlaw' motorcycle fraternity and other fringe areas of society. Therefore it's vital that all those within membership not only share our strong Christian belief, but also see membership of the club as vocational - a calling if you like.
How do you join?
- Membership, is by invitation, and usually takes a minimum period of around 3 years, which includes periods as an associate of the club followed by a period of 'prospecting'.
Aren't you being elitest?
- No. The nature of our activity is built on trust and respect. Neither of those things come quickly, but they are easily lost. When someone wears God's Squad colours they deserve to be wearing them and their calling has been recognised both by the club and respective supporting churches.
What do other clubs think of you?
- Ultimately, that is a question that you need to ask other clubs. However, it would be fair to say we have a growing relationship with the many clubs within the scene. Out of these relationships we are happy to take up invites and opportunities to serve as an expression of our faith.
What do you ride?
- We all ride an appropriate BEARS bike of at least 750cc.
What do you think of other Christian clubs that are around?
- We have relationship with other Christian clubs throughout New Zealand and the World. We support the diversity that they all bring when it is practised with keen awareness of the values of 1% clubs.
How can a Christian wear colours, an outlaw symbol?
- We can only speak for our club here. We respect the significance of colours in the outlaw subculture and attribute them the same value and reverence. We are 100% committed to our faith and calling - and therefore our patch, so while our Christian lifestyle may differ to parts of the of 1%er clubs, there is common ground. We too do not like the way our world is and seek to live by a different code. Jesus was executed as an outlaw and at many points in history His church has found itself at odds with the way things are. Our colours show our primary allegiance is to God, they are a tangible way of expressing who we are and what we stand for.
Do you have a Clubhouse?
- No. We meet in each others homes or hire a venue when required for a larger occasion. This enables us to be out and about in the scene, available to anyone who may want to engage with us.
How does God's Squad fit into the church?
- God's Squad seeks to support the wider church in every way possible in this unique ministry. Our members are active participants in a local Christian community. Occasionally we are not understood well as we do not represent a "mainstream" expression of Christian faith. However, we believe church involvement and commitment is an important part of living our faith.
What is a Christian?
- A Christian is a person who has decided to let the claims of Jesus Christ be the most important thing in their lives. Jesus spoke and lived a life based on committed love for God and all his creation, putting this before his own desires. Christians are in no way perfect people, rather they have realised that they are broken and need the forgiveness and new beginning in life that Jesus offers. Following Jesus is a lifelong journey, with its ups and downs. As we follow Jesus our lives begin to conform more and more to his way of life. His healing love will bring new life and health over time.
Just as we can tell an apple tree by the apples it grows so we can recognise a Christian as their life will show the 'fruit' of Jesus - love, hope, compassion, mercy, grace, justice. Being a Christian is not about following a set of rules or laws - it is about having a growing relationship with Jesus, through the power of God's Spirit acting in us. This means anyone can follow Jesus wherever they are.How can I become a Christian?
- First you need to realise that you have been running your own life and that it is time to let Jesus take over - let him ride the bike now while you ride pillion. Ask God to forgive you for your past failures and mistakes.
- Commit your life to following the ways of Jesus - ask for God to saturate your life with His Spirit and lead you on in life as your closest friend and staunchest supporter. As this is a hard life to live on your own it is important that you find some other people who follow Jesus who can encourage your faith and support you.
- If you want to grow in your Christian life and would like a copy of the New Testament (book that tells the life of Jesus and the beginnings of His Church) please us or write to us at PO Box 30876, Lower Hutt. We can put you in contact with people near you who will not hassle or judge you, but help you follow Jesus each day. We can also supply some study guides to the New Testament which may help you. God go with you and may you know his peace each day.
